Balochistan’s Major Shift: Merging the Levies Force with Provincial Police

In an important step towards enhancing security and law enforcement in Balochistan, the provincial government has officially merged the Levies Force into the police. This transition is set to abolish all ‘B’ areas, converting them into ‘A’ areas, effectively streamlining administrative operations and boosting public safety throughout the region.

Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti took to social media to announce this significant development, emphasizing that this merger clarifies the roles and responsibilities of law enforcement in Balochistan. The cabinet’s decision means that areas such as Sibi and Loralai, previously under Levies jurisdiction, will now be fully integrated into the police framework.

What does this mean for the Levies personnel? All members, including those involved with the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) Wing, will retain their ranks and benefits, ensuring a smooth transition into the newly restructured force. They will operate under the Balochistan Police Act of 2011, now benefiting from enhanced resources and infrastructure previously allocated to the Levies.

To facilitate this transition, an accelerated training program is underway. Starting January 1, 2026, 772 ex-Levies officers are enrolled in a comprehensive three-month course at the Police Training College (PTC) in Quetta. This training isn’t just about the basics; it includes physical fitness, weapons handling, counter-terror tactics, and investigative skills—truly setting the stage for a professional and proficient force ready to handle modern challenges.

The commandant of PTC, Shahzad Akbar, highlighted exciting upgrades to the facilities, including a new futsal ground, emphasizing the importance of both wellbeing and skill enhancement as new officers prepare to protect their communities. With these updates, the Balochistan Police aims to rebuild public confidence and foster a service-oriented approach within the force.

This historic move began in October 2025 when six of Balochistan’s eight administrative divisions were initially merged into police control, with Sibi and Loralai being the final areas to make the leap. According to Chief Minister Bugti, this will resolve long-standing legal ambiguities around policing and reflect the government’s commitment to ensuring consistent law enforcement across all districts of Balochistan.
