Discovering Emirati Culture Through Animation: The ‘Stories of Wulfa’ Competition

The Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) has kickstarted the exciting ‘Stories of Wulfa’ competition, inviting storytellers, illustrators, and creatives to craft an animated series that embodies the essence of Emirati traditions and values.
This competition offers a substantial Dh2 million in funding to the winning project, which demonstrates the commitment to nurture and showcase local talent. Submissions are open until 15 November 2026, and artists from various fields—ranging from directors to animation studios—are encouraged to share their creative visions.
Imagine an animated series with 15 captivating episodes, each around 20 minutes long, diving into themes like family bonds, the warmth of hospitality, and the beauty of our festive traditions, including ‘Hag Al Laila’, Ramadan, and Eid celebrations. This project not only aims to entertain but also to preserve and promote our cultural identity.
Shaima Rashed Al Suwaidi, the CEO of the Arts, Design and Literature Sector at Dubai Culture, emphasized that investing in original content is crucial for the growth of the creative industry and the animation sector. By encouraging local talent to draw inspiration from their heritage, they aim to produce works that can compete on both regional and global stages.
