Understanding Punjab’s Political Standoff: What’s Happening?

Originally, the assembly planned to impose fines on some MPAs for their disruptive behavior. Collectively, suspensions could have cost these lawmakers over Rs20 million, not to mention additional penalties for further infractions. But for now, these enforcement measures are on pause, providing a glimmer of hope for a peaceful resolution.
Additionally, plans to table no-confidence motions against nine chairpersons of various committees have also been put on hold. These were part of a broader disciplinary action intended to address the fallout from the chaotic events of June 27. In total, 13 opposition lawmakers were at risk of being removed from their committee positions, but that action is now on the back burner, allowing room for ongoing dialogue.
