Karachi Basketball Associations Urge Fairness in Team Selections
In Karachi, a recent call for action from Advocate Ghulam Abbas Jamal, the President of Sindh and Karachi Basketball Associations, has shed light on ongoing issues within the Pakistan Basketball Federation (PBF). In an appeal to key officials, including Federal Advisor Rana Sanaullah and Sindh Sports Minister Sardar Muhammad Bux Khan Mahar, Ghulam Abbas emphasized the need for justice and recognition of the legitimate basketball bodies in Sindh.
He stated, "There is only one Basketball Association in Sindh and one genuine Karachi Basketball Association." Yet, he expressed disappointment over the PBF appointing a single individual to oversee team selections for the National Youth Games, without forming a selection committee. What’s particularly worrying is the choice of a private bungalow with a personal court as the trial venue—an area inaccessible to the public.
Both the Sindh Basketball Association (SBA) and Karachi Basketball Association (KBA) have formally raised these concerns with the Sports Department, but so far, their cries have gone unheard. Ghulam Abbas’s appeal aims to ensure that rightful stakeholders are given their due rights in the sport.
He urged Rana Sanaullah to instruct the Sports Office Administration (SOA) to entrust selection responsibilities to the recognized representatives of Sindh and Karachi. He also reminded the SOA President of the importance of transparency and accountability within the sport.
To combat the controversy created by the PBF, Ghulam Abbas has formed a committee with notable members, including SBA Secretary Aamir Sharif and KBA Secretary Zahid Malik. This committee aims to raise awareness about the unjust decisions made by the PBF among sports circles.
Ghulam Abbas’s heartfelt appeal highlights a crucial moment for basketball in Sindh. It serves as a reminder that fairness and transparency are essential for the growth of any sport. Advocating for local representation ensures that the talent and passion in Karachi are given the platform they deserve.
