Unity in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa: A Call to Action
As the political landscape in Pakistan continues to shift, the upcoming Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) rally on September 27 in Peshawar is being touted as a pivotal moment. Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur recently urged party workers to show up in full force, emphasizing the rally’s significance in determining the nation’s direction.
Speaking outside Adiala Jail, where he was denied a meeting with PTI founder Imran Khan, Gandapur voiced his frustrations about the situation. He described the charges against Khan and his wife as fabricated and politically motivated, insisting that unity is paramount. According to Gandapur, “If we want real freedom, we have to stay united. We cannot afford infighting or pulling each other down.” This call for solidarity resonates deeply in K-P, recognized as the heartland of PTI.
Gandapur believes that the rally could serve as a unifying force for the party. He openly questioned the motivations behind restricting meetings with party leadership, fearing these actions are creating unnecessary divisions. “Without strength, neither negotiations happen, nor wars are won,” he argued, underscoring the importance of collective action.
Meanwhile, Imran’s sister, Aleema Khan, has echoed similar sentiments, claiming that the authorities are deliberately stalling the Toshakhana 2.0 case with the use of “false witnesses.” She voiced her concerns to the media, stating that the treatment of her brother raises fundamental questions about justice and basic rights, including his communication with family.
In her statements, Aleema also highlighted a broader issue of rising militancy in K-P, arguing that sustainable peace cannot be achieved by merely expelling Afghans from Pakistan. Instead, she called for cooperation among local tribes and the Afghan government to foster dialogue and resolve conflicts.
As the rally approaches, both Gandapur and Aleema emphasize the urgent need for participation and unity among PTI supporters. “Come two days early if you must — we will host you,” Gandapur urged, reinforcing the idea that every voice counts in this pivotal moment for K-P and the PTI.
