Cycling: After all the chaos of that second heat (both runs of it), England’s Sophie Capewell tries another track stand in the deciding heat of her sprint semi-final against Malaysia’s Nurul Izzah Izzati Mohd Asri, who has to lead from the front. There’s no faffing about this time, with Capewell going high up the banking to pick up some speed. She goes in front after the bell and just about holds on by half a wheel!
Capewell will face Wales’ Emma Finucane for the Commonwealth title in just under an hour’s time but, er, good luck with that.
🏅 Devon Briggs wins the men’s C1-3 1000m time trial for New Zealand! He was the last rider out and is the first Commonwealth champion in this category. He pushes Gordon Allan of Australia into silver and Fin Graham of Scotland into bronze. There were two seconds between the top three.

Para cycling: The C1-C3 category enters the Commonwealth Games for the first time. It is for athletes with physical impairment impacting their upper and/or lower limbs. Six riders will battle for the medals in a 1000m time trial.
Cycling: Capewell and Mohd Asri come to a stop in exactly the same place on their second run. This time, the man in the tie blows his whistle instead of shooting his gun – now they move. The Malaysian has to go out in front … but brings it to a stop again. Then they set off at snail’s pace, with Capewell in front. And a gun is fired again and it’s stopped.
Mohd Asri is penalised and forfeits the heat. It’s 1-1 and they will face each other in a deciding heat. Well, that was bizarre.
Cycling: Capewell and Mohd Asri are given a metaphorical rap on the knuckles as the second heat of their semi-final is stopped midway through after Capewell started a track stand, which drew the race to a standstill to such an extent that some guy in a shirt and tie came out to shoot his gun. Nobody is really sure why it was stopped, possibly for backwards movement. They will restart.
Cycling: Emma Finucane sees off Wales teammate Rhian Edmunds with ease to book her place in the women’s sprint final. It wasn’t really a contest – a resigned Edmunds looked to be saving herself for the bronze final. Finucane will better her bronze from this event in 2022.
England’s Sophie Capewell has work to do against Malaysia’s Nurul Izzah Izzati Mohd Asri, who leads 1-0 after the first heat of the other semi. It’s first to two.
Cycling: Pete Mitchell takes the roof off the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome with a sensational performance in the third repechage race of the men’s keirin. The 36-year-old ginger-bearded Scot, who used to ride for England before retiring a few years ago, returned to the sport in 2024. He comes through to beat Njisane Phillip of Trinidad and Tobago on the line and the crowd goes wild. He’ll be the only Scottish representative in the semi-finals. Imagine if he wins a medal.
“Pete was from my era!” says Hoy on TV.
🏅 Judo: India have had better luck on the judo mat, taking the first two titles up for grabs today. Asmita Dey beat Canada’s Heidi Quach 2-1 in the women’s 48kg final before Harsh Singh saw off Australia’s Joshua Katz 10-0 in the men’s 60kg final.
🥉 There were ippons in both bronze finals in the women’s 48kg division, with Scotland tasting victory and defeat. Summer Shaw won bronze for the hosts against Botswana’s Botho Babutsi but Eva Ewing lost out to Katryna Esposito of Malta.
Charlie Ayre of England beat Kenya’s Regan Wali to bronze in the men’s 60kg while Pedro Antun Neto beat Botswana’s Tumiso Phuthego.
Cycling: In the first repechage race of the men’s keirin, the Indian pair of David Beckham Elkatohchoongo and Ronaldo Singh Laitonjam try to work together from the back of the pack but it’s the defending Commonwealth champion Nicholas Paul who takes the final semi-final spot.
“It’s all in my legs right now,” Anna Morris says on TNT Sports. “If I bend my knee, my leg’s going to give way.”

Cycling: Morris, the reigning world and European champion in this discipline, opens up a 1sec gap after the first 2-3 laps and just keeps extending it. Knight, who is the world record holder and set a new Games record earlier today, has no answer as the gap grows to almost 2sec after 2500m. It’s a 3sec gap with a couple of laps to go and Morris can just about see Knight out in front of her – that’s how far ahead she is.
It’s gold for Wales! And just to top it off, she takes a second and a half off Knight’s Games record.
🥉 Cycling: Erin Boothman of Scotland beats New Zealand’s defending champion Bryony Botha to bronze in the women’s 4000m individual pursuit! The 19-year-old Scot, whose coach is standing by the track in his kilt, wins by 1.245sec – what a performance.
England’s Josie Knight and Wales’ Anna Morris do battle for gold next …
India’s Ronaldo Singh Laitonjam talks to TNT Sports: “It was a little bit tough for me because I was not in my form at the right moment. I’ve got one more chance to qualify for the semi-final.
“A lot of youth have been inspired. My family and friends are watching back home. I hope they are not disappointed with my performance.”
When asked about his name, he says: “It’s actually from my father. My father was a big fan of Ronaldinho, the Brazilian. I changed my name back in 2007 to Ronaldo.”
Laitonjam was born in 2002, so that checks out. The next bit … who knows.
Cycling: Emma Finucane takes charge of the first run of the all-Welsh semi-final with Rhian Edmunds, leading from the front and having too much for her compatriot on the final sprint. It’s best of three to advance to the final.

Cycling: Tayte Ryan makes it three in a row for Australia in the final keirin heat, which has no famous football namesakes. Muhammad Sahrom of Malaysia advanced in second place. David Beckham Elkatohchoongo and Ronaldo Singh Laitonjam will head into the repechage.

Cycling: David Beckham Elkatohchoongo of India, that is. He crosses the third keirin heat in fifth after Daniel James (yes) Barber of Australia burst past Mohd Azizulhasni Awang of Malaysia on the last lap. At least David Beckham did better than Ronaldo Singh Laitonjam in the first heat – his compatriot came last.
Cycling: Australia’s Leigh Hoffman, who won gold in the team sprint yesterday, blows the field away in the second keirin heat to ease through, with England’s Harry Ledingham-Horn just holding off Scotland’s Lyall Craig on the line to advance.
David Beckham’s in the next heat …
Cycling: The Derny bike withdraws with three laps to go. England’s Harry Radford hits the front as the bell goes for the last lap and holds on in front of Canada’s Cole Dempster. Radford, who replaced the controversial Matt Richardson on the England team just this week, looked to have initiated a bit of contact on one of the other riders and he gets away with a warning.
Nicholas Paul of Trinidad and Tobago, who won gold in this event in 2022, will have to go into the repechage after finishing third.

Boxing: Rosie Eccles, who had to settle for bronze in the women’s 70kg, gives a very emotional interview to TNT: “This last year has been so tough. I’ve talked about all the good people, but this last year there were some awful people, a small handful, who tried to end my career for me. And, do you know what, screw ‘em.”
Boxing: England’s Chantelle Reid, who spent six years away from boxing due to a serious back problem before returning in 2023, is going to battle for gold. She secures a unanimous victory against Lekeisha Pergoliti in the women’s 70kg semi-finals.

Boxing: To the women’s 70kg semi-finals as Wales’ Rosie Eccles – who won light middleweight gold in 2022 – battles against India’s Arundhati Choudhary. It’s Choudhary who claims the first round, all five judges giving it 10-9. And it’s a repeat in the second … Eccles shows serious fight in the third but she’ll bow out with a bronze.
Boxing: Northern Ireland’s Michaela Walsh is off to the final of the women’s 57kg – she’s just brushed aside Fiji’s Jasmine Daunakamakama.
Athletics: Scotland’s Callum Newby is triumphant in the decathlon pole vault, clearing 5.00m. He can’t leap over 5.10m but he’s jumped to fifth in the overall standings. Two events to go.

Track cycling: A real thriller as Malaysia’s Nurul Izzah Izzati Mohd Asri forces a decider in her sprint quarter-final against Rhianna Parris-Smith – the former just edged it on the finish line.
Track cycling: It’s an all-English battle, Sophie Capewell against Katy Marchant – they secured gold together at the 2024 Olympics in the team sprint. Capewell won the first race of their sprint quarter-final … and she eases to another victory to join Finucane in the semis.

Athletics: Lindon Victor lets out a roar as he stands at the end of the pole vault runway. After failing on his first attempt, he squeezes over the 4.70m bar to post a season’s best and extend his lead in the overall decathlon standings. Callum Newby and Lewis Church are also clear at 4.70m. Sammy Ball has one attempt left.

Melanie Woods wins gold for Scotland – again. Her T54 1500m was rerun after appeals were lodged following Wednesday’s first race, but the Scot repeated her victory before also making through to the 400m final later on.

Controversy in the decathlon as defending champion Lindon Victor has his best discus throw chalked off after an incorrect measurement. The Grenada athlete has gone into the overall lead during the pole vault anyway.

Wales’ Emma Finucane is up against Olympic champion Ellesse Andrews in the quarter-finals of the women’s sprint in the velodrome and leads 1-0 in the best-of-three tie.

Kaci Rock, daughter of former Irish boxer Jim Rock, is through to the final of the women’s 65kg division after beating Caitlin Ramsey in a thriller.
Athletics: Lindon Victor’s first attempt at 4.60m in the decathlon pole vault ends with him bringing the bar down with his feet and perhaps landing awkwardly. He hobbles away from the mat and throws his pole to the side. The defending champion from Grenada could do with a clearance at this height to lift him into provisional gold before the javelin – one of his preferred events.
Sammy Ball of England goes into provisional silver by clearing 4.60m at the second attempt. Damian Warner of Canada, who was leading the standings, has already bowed out of the pole vault. Victor replaces him in top spot by clearing the 4.60m bar at the second attempt.
