Basketball: New Zealand beat Singapore 21-15 to set up a semi-final against England in men’s 3×3.
It’s quite quiet over in Glasgow at the moment with some bowls group games and 3×3 basketball. Maybe we all need a relative lull amid the overall chaos.
Breanna Scott and Jesse Moore have added to Australia’s gold medal bonanza at the Commonwealth Games, taking out individual apparatus titles in Glasgow.
Just minutes after Scott nailed a flashy balance beam routine to take out the title on her speciality apparatus, Moore hit every mark on parallel bars to win another gold for Australia at Glasgow International Arena. Scott scored 13.933 points for her routine, beating Singapore’s Amanda Yap (13.233) and Lia-Monica Fontaine (13.00) of Canada.
Netball: Wales pummel Trinidad and Tobago to win 74-30 and avoid finishing bottom of the group.

The invitation has already been extended. Even if Australia beat Pakistan in their men’s pairs match at the Commonwealth Games, they are still welcome to dinner afterwards. There is just one small catch. “If we lose, they are still invited to the restaurant, but I will probably give them a spicy vindaloo as revenge,” Mohammed Ayub Qureshi says with a smile.
Qureshi, better known around the city’s bowls community as “Chico”, has spent decades serving food at Alishan Tandoori while also becoming Pakistan’s most recognisable lawn bowler. On Wednesday the restaurateur swaps the shirt and tie for Pakistan colours as he and his teammate Maqsood Waseem Khan face one of the toughest assignments in the sport.
Netball: Wales are in complete control against Trinidad and Tobago at the end of the third quarter, leading 58-24.

Dolci wins fourth gold of the Games on horizontal bar
Gymnastics: Felix Dolci grabs a fourth gold of the Commonwealth Games. William Ellard came back to secure bronze at the second attempt, to put two Canadians on the podium, with Marios Georgiou taking silver.
Gymnastics: Alexander Yolshin-Cash puts in an almost flawless display but that is only good enough for second, albeit briefly. Marios Georgiou then steps up and stuns on the bar to move into the silver medal position with one gymnast to go.
Gymnastics: Felix Dolci of Canada smashes his routine as he jumped to the top with a fine score of 14.233.
Gymnastics: William Emard suffers a snapped guard and falls off the bars. He will be allowed another go after a sprint to get a spare guard or two from his equipment bag.
Gymnastics: Scotland’s Cameron Lynn takes the early lead in the men’s horizontal bars with a score of 13.133, much to the glee of the Glasgow fans. Alex Niscoveanu of Wales is next up but a mistake sees him fall and ruins any chance he may have of a medal, as he collects 11.666.
Ruby Evans: “I am really happy and pleased that it is done. I came out angry. I knew I wanted a medal and I got a gold, so I am really happy.
“She [Martin] definitely set the bar high, and Shantae did a rally good routine. I didn’t know [if I had won].”
Evans produces perfection for floor exercise gold
Gymnastics: Ruby Evans is last up on the floor, dressed in gold, to see if she can outdo Abigail Martin and Shante-Eve Amankwaah. It is an impress effort from the Welsh gymnast to close the show. Is it enough to move her top? Evans receives 13.500 to take first and gold. It is silver for Martin and bronze for Amankwaah.
Charron wins third gold in a row
Weightlifting: Sarah Davies Smale comes out for her shot at outdoing Canada’s Charron … but her effort at 138kg does not get very far, leaving her to settle for silver. This means Charron has won three Commonwealth Games golds in a row.
Weightlifting: Maude Charron lifts 130kg to put her on target for gold in the 63kg category.
So here’s Will Unwin to let you know!

Amada Yap of Singapore scores just 11.000, but she’ll be more than happy with her beam medal. Next up, though, it’s Fontaine of Canada, who I think will have something to say…
Get this up and she’s guaranteed a medal … and it’s there! Sarah Smale will take a medal in the women’s 63kg weight lifting, but what colour will it be? She’s still raging at previous failures, but a podium is a podium, and getting on it when performing off your best is annoying but still an achievement.
McDonald of Australia doesn’t look especially happy with her performance, but her 12.933 leaves her second. Meantime, Sarah Smale looks to have 122 up, but can’t close it out so goes again…
Georgia Godwin of Australia goes next but seems to be a little tentative, 12.300 the best she can manage. Oh, and back in the weightlifting, Nauru forget to get the bar changed for Notte who looks to have up the 118 she’s got to take as its already on the bar, but she can’t quite sort it out.
Off we go with the women’s floor final and Abigail Martin of England, bronze medalist in the world championships lays down what might just be a monster. Anyone seeking gold must do better than her 13.3333.
Our women’s floor exercisers are coming into the arena while, back with the weightlifting, Elliott of Australia nails 112kg – though our leaders have yet to join the competition. As I type, though, Notte of Nauru hoists 113; what a prospect she is.
Ruben Ward has finished for the Games, so let’s enjoy a favourite moment so far, when he doesn’t win a medal on the hoss but his mate does.

The women’s exercise final is coming up in 14 minutes, which should be a lot of fun, while the clean & jerk is under way in that women’s 63kg final.
Jesse Moore of Australia wins the men’s parallel bars
Marios Georgiou of Cyprus takes silver and Felix Dolci of Canada bronze.
It’s a fair routine and the crowd love it, but I don’t think it’s enough for a medal … though he cups ears at them in return. He gets 13.166, so isn’t close, which means…
And it’s a pretty decent routine, but his foot catches the bar on dismount, he again finishes outside the medal positions … and so, I’m sure, does Alexander Yolshin-Cash. Yup, from qualifying first, he winds up seventh, which means Reueben Ward, the all-around champ, is the only ma n able to confiscate the gold from Moore.
Nope, 13.3400 puts him third behind Moore and Georgiou. Time for Adam Tobin, who’s mot quite managed a medal yet, despite getting close.
Next on the p-bars it’s Emard of Canada, whose 13.200 leaves him third. Oh, and Felix Dolci of Canada, already three golds to the good, is the first to nail his dismount. Will it be enough for the lead?
It’s hotting up in the weightlifting, Notte sorting 100kg and Charron a Games record of 102 – she’s very clearly the class of this field, so chill under the bar, and returns to go at 105 … but it gets big on her immediately, and she drops it behind her. That completes the snatch section, clean& jerk to come.
Elliot Vernon of Wales navigates a careful routine, but he falls on dismount and must accept 12.700; he’s not happy.
Elliott goes at 99 and slots it, just as, in the p-bars, Angonas of Cyprus makes a mess of his dismount. He scores 13.800 and sits behind Moore of Ausrtralia, who leads.
Goodness me, Femily-Crystie Notte of Nauru, at just 17, nails 97kg, then Maude Charron of Canada does likewise with 99 – so confidently it’s ridiculous.
It really is incredible what these women are lifting, but can Smale manage 95kg? She approaches the bar, closes her eyes, and is this her last-ever lift in competition? She’s in position, but can she stand up? Yes she can, and if she can stick in the competition, she’ll have a great chance in the clean & jerk.
Our athletes are warming up, so back with the weightlifting, Elliott of Australia also fails at 95 … then Smale does a second time, though she’ll have hoisted this baby many, many times. And to make matters worse for her, Davies smashes it easily on second go.
Time for the men’s p-bar final…
Up to 95kg and Sarah Davies Smale of England arrives into the competition … but drops the bar behind her. Not the start she wanted.
Ayodele can’t bang 91kg, but bear in mind, the best athletes haven’t yet entered the competition – we’ll properly get going aroud the 95kg mark.
Oh, Syazwani gets 88, but now Tabone of Malta takes on 89 … and giggles uncontrollably when she knows she’s done it, barbell over her head. She enjoyed that and why not, she’s lifting her own bodyweight and more. In case you’re wondering, I could not do this.
Back with the weightlifting, Ayodele of Nigeria lifts 88kg, but Syazwani of Malaysia fails a second time when it looks like she’s got it. Meantime in the men’s 90kg boxing quarter-finals, Wales’ Connor Williams has hammered Holo Tutakitoa-Williams Duken of Niue … but somehow wins by split decision. Still, he won’t mind having guaranteed himself a medal oin the process.
In the netball, South Africa, who meet England on Thursday night in a match which’ll probably decide who accompanies Australia into the semi-finals, lead Northern Ireland 32-17 with 41s left in Q2.
Beth Ashbee of Scotland can’t quite get 85kg up on her first go, but it’s early in the competition and she’s got time.
We’re bereft of nastics finals for … a whole 25 minutes, so let’s pay some attention to the women’s 63kg weightlifting.
Breanna Scott of Australia wins gold in the women’s beam
Amanda Yap takes silver, Singapore’s second ever in gymnastics, and Lia-Monica Fontaine of Canada nabs bronze.
Fontaine scores 13.000, which means…
Canada’s Fontaine lays down a pretty good effort, but lost a bit of balance with her backflip on to the bar. I’m not sure the gold is possible for that reason, but she might manage a medal.
Ruby Evans of Wales registers 12.300, which leaves her sixth, so it’s down to Lia-Monica Fontaine, who won the vault yesterday, to see if she can snaffle gold or, failing that, another medal. The 16-year-old is the breakout star of this meet…
McDonald’s teammate, Brenana Scott, is next, and to my inexpert eye, this looks like the best routine we’ve seen so far, the backflips and spin on point, the squat-spin too. She dismounts with a double pike, scores 13.933, and that puts her way in front with just two more gymnasts to go.
Kate McDonald of Australia, the defending champion, is next up, and her routine is a pretty safe one, though she makes small adjustments with her feet that’ll impact her score. And the judges punish her harshly, 12.166 putting her fifth of five.
Leat’s routine is a pleasant one, save one error that happened while I was taking over, and it makes all the difference. She scores 12.866, the difficulty of 6.000 worth of respect, but the oversight means she sits third.
