Title: Ensuring Safety During Chehlum Processions in Islamabad and Karachi
As August 15 approaches, the streets of Islamabad and Karachi are gearing up for the Chehlum processions, an important religious observance for many. Both cities have laid out comprehensive security plans to ensure that everyone can participate safely and peacefully.
In Islamabad, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, addressed the public, outlining a thorough security initiative that draws from the experiences of previous years. With around 5,000 officers and personnel deployed, every corner of the city is set to be monitored closely. Notably, sniper commandos will be stationed on rooftops along the procession route, ensuring a watchful eye from above. Drones are banned in the area to maintain security, showcasing just how serious the authorities are about keeping attendees safe.
Moreover, a modern digital surveillance system featuring high-tech cameras will be actively surveilling the city. The Islamabad Police have also conducted thorough sweeps along the procession route, increasing entry points for participants to minimize congestion. As a safety reminder, the public is encouraged to cooperate with law enforcement and report any suspicious activity via the emergency helpline Pucar-15.
Meanwhile, Karachi is also stepping up its security measures, deploying a staggering 11,479 personnel to ensure the safety of the 108 processions scheduled. The Additional Inspector General (AIG) Karachi, Javed Alam Odho, has emphasized the importance of increased patrolling and the implementation of snap-checking, especially in sensitive areas. Special attention is being given to popular locations like Nishtar Park, which will serve as a focal point for activities associated with Chehlum.
The participation of the Bomb Disposal Squad further adds an extra layer of security by conducting thorough sweeps at all major venues. Additionally, all Station House Officers (SHOs) are expected to ensure heightened vigilance in their areas, leaving no stone unturned in maintaining public safety.
These extensive security measures across both cities are aimed at offering maximum convenience and safety for participants and onlookers alike during the solemn observances of Chehlum. It’s a time for reflection and remembrance, and the collaborative effort of law enforcement aims to ensure that the focus remains on the significance of the day.
