Affordable Energy for Growth: A New Dawn for Industries and Agriculture in Pakistan

As of now, agricultural consumers will see their rates for excess electricity consumption drop drastically from Rs38 to Rs22.98 per unit. Similarly, the industrial sector will also enjoy a new rate of Rs22.98 per unit, down from Rs34. This shift is expected to not only lighten the financial burden on these crucial sectors but also stimulate production and create much-needed jobs.
Imagine the impact on a farmer’s bottom line when using an additional 100 electricity units translates to a savings of almost Rs7 per unit. Industrial consumers using an additional 1,000 units will notice nearly Rs5 off each unit. Such savings can reinvested in the businesses, fostering innovation and growth.
The Power Division spokesperson highlighted that this reduction is part of a broader initiative to lessen operational costs for industries and agriculture—two foundational pillars of Pakistan’s economy. Energy Minister Owais Leghari noted that this package would not only nurture existing industries but also pave the way for new opportunities, including greenfield projects like data centers and crypto mining operations.
