Pakistan’s Major Counter-Terrorism Operations: A Focus on Recent Successes
In recent days, Pakistan has stepped up its counter-terrorism efforts, resulting in significant successes against militant groups linked to foreign proxies. On September 20, security forces launched an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in the Kulachi area of Dera Ismail Khan, leading to the elimination of seven terrorists, including three Afghan nationals and two suicide bombers.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), this operation specifically targeted the group Fitna al Khwarij, known for its connections to Indian-sponsored terrorism. Following the successful engagement, security forces conducted a thorough sanitization sweep to ensure any remaining militants were cleared from the area.
Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi commended the military’s efforts, stating, “I salute the security forces for bringing seven Khwarij to a grim end.” His praise reflects a nationwide sentiment of appreciation for the dedication and professionalism demonstrated by security personnel. The minister further emphasized that the Khwarij would find no sanctuary within Pakistani borders.
The assault in Dera Ismail Khan followed closely on the heels of two operations in Khuzdar district, Balochistan, where four and five terrorists were killed, respectively. These terrorists were also linked to the Indian proxy network Fitna al Hindustan. In total, over the past few weeks, security forces have eliminated 31 terrorists across the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa region.
These operations are part of Pakistan’s broader strategy to combat heightened terrorism threats, which have included several coordinated campaigns. Last month saw the deaths of 45 militants in areas such as Bajaur and South Waziristan, highlighting the security forces’ ongoing commitment to restoring peace.
The ISPR has repeatedly pointed to the involvement of Indian proxies and the use of Afghan territory in facilitating these attacks, prompting Islamabad to call on Afghanistan’s interim government for cooperation in preventing cross-border terrorism. This plea transcends mere diplomatic relations; it represents a call for regional unity against common threats.
