Get Ready for the Supermoon!
Mark your calendars for October 7, 2025! This date brings not just any full moon, but a spectacular supermoon that will light up the night sky across Pakistan. According to the Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco), this celestial event marks the Moon’s closest approach to Earth, a point known as perigee. At this distance—approximately 361,400 kilometers (or 224,599 miles)—the supermoon will dazzle us, appearing about 14% larger and 30% brighter than a typical full moon.
It’s hard not to get excited about such a natural wonder, especially since it’s been nearly a year since we last enjoyed a supermoon back in November 2024. Suparco reminds us that when the Moon rises near the horizon, it can look even bigger due to an optical illusion. This is one of the joys of sky-watching that adds a touch of magic to the experience.
If you’re a fan of lunar events, there’s more good news! Three additional supermoons are set to grace our skies: one on November 5, another on December 5, 2025, and the last one in early January 2026, though that one won’t be part of the current series. Typically, we can expect three to four supermoons each year, making each occasion a perfect opportunity to step outside, soak in the beauty, and perhaps snap a few photos.
