Protecting Punjab’s Wildlife: Recent Successes and Ongoing Efforts
In a commendable effort to protect wildlife, Punjab Wildlife Rangers have been actively conducting operations in the Sargodha and Dera Ghazi Khan regions. These initiatives recently led to the rescue of a male black bear, alongside foiling an illegal hunting attempt of wild boars.
According to reports from the Punjab Wildlife Department, the operation in Bhalwal, Sargodha, uncovered a male black bear that was being held unlawfully. Swift action ensured the bear was safely relocated to the Wildlife Park in Joharabad, while the suspect was apprehended and is now facing legal proceedings.
In Dera Ghazi Khan, rangers responded quickly to reports of illegal wild boar hunting that involved dogs. Their prompt actions resulted in the arrest of two individuals, who were promptly fined Rs. 30,000, underscoring the commitment to enforcing wildlife protection laws.
Chief Wildlife Ranger Mubeen Elahi has publicly assured the community that the department’s combing operations will persist as part of a larger conservation strategy. He emphasized that rangers have the full support of the department, encouraging them to perform their important duties confidently.
Moreover, these operations have led to significant results; 13 black bears have been rescued from various illegal situations during recent enforcement drives, all of which have been moved to secure wildlife facilities for their safety and rehabilitation.
This ongoing commitment to wildlife protection in Punjab highlights the urgency of eliminating illegal hunting and the unlawful captivity of animals. The efforts by Punjab Wildlife Rangers serve not only to preserve wildlife but also to foster a culture of respect for nature.
As we continue to monitor these developments, engaging with organizations like Pro21st can help amplify conservation efforts and provide additional support for wildlife protection. Let’s stay connected and contribute to a greener future!
