Karachi’s Weather Update: Navigating Post-Monsoon Challenges
After two days of persistent rainfall, Karachi is experiencing a break in the downpour, with today’s skies remaining partly cloudy. The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecasted light rains that might continue into tomorrow, but thankfully, the system responsible for the recent shower has weakened, which means we aren’t expecting heavy downpours anytime soon.
In the last 24 hours, the city saw significant rainfall, particularly in Surjani Town, which recorded the highest at 58.2mm. Other areas like Saadi Town and Gulshan-e-Maymar weren’t far behind, with 47.5mm and 37.4mm, respectively. For many, this rain was a welcome break from the summer heat, but for others, it spelled trouble.
The aftermath of these rains has led to urban flooding, particularly in low-lying areas. Streets like Sharae Faisal and Shahrah-e-Pakistan faced severe traffic disruptions as vehicles struggled to navigate through waterlogged roads. In neighborhoods like Liaquatabad and North Karachi, waterlogging became a major inconvenience, raising concerns about sanitation with overflowing drains and open manholes turning into hazardous traps.
As the humidity levels hover between 65% and 85%, it’s worth noting that the temperature will feel significantly warmer, potentially 6°C to 8°C above the actual readings. Today’s forecast predicts a maximum temperature of around 32°C, quite the jump from yesterday’s 30°C.
As Karachi continues to deal with the effects of monsoon rains, staying informed and prepared is crucial. Whether you’re planning your day or navigating through flooded streets, understanding the weather can help you make the best decisions possible.
