Tackling Extremism and Organized Crime in Balochistan
In a significant development, Balochistan’s Chief Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti has voiced concerns over a troubling trend: extremists shifting from ideological pursuits to organized crime. This warning follows a successful military operation in Kharan, where security forces killed 12 militants who were part of a rogue group. Targets included the Kharan City Police Station and two banks, where militants made off with a staggering Rs3.4 million. Fortunately, the quick action of security forces prevented a potential hostage crisis at the police station, ensuring that the assault was contained.
Acknowledging the successful operation, Bugti praised the Frontier Corps for their agile response, although he noted that one civilian was injured and is currently receiving treatment. The Chief Minister has pledged to intensify intelligence-based operations (IBOs), asserting that extremist elements should expect relentless pursuit from the authorities. “Whenever they attempt to threaten our streets, they will face a swift response,” he asserted.
