Summer is all about ease and style, and nothing embodies that quite like matching sets. You know the look: effortlessly chic coordinates that help you step out the door without a second thought. From high-street staples like Zara and Mango to more upscale contemporary brands, matching sets are taking over both streets and stores this season.

These ensembles are the ultimate blend of comfort and sophistication, offering the polished vibe of a suit without the stiffness. Imagine stylish tops and bottoms that feel as cozy as pajamas. Recently, we saw Anne Hathaway rocking a stunning white set in New York City, and Laura Harrier turning heads in a black knit cardigan paired with shorts for her Reformation launch in L.A.

Retailers have noted a marked increase in interest surrounding this two-piece trend. Websites like Moda Operandi, Net-a-Porter, Nordstrom, and Revolve have dedicated sections for matching sets, making them easy to find online. These sets are not just lounge-wear; they’re perfect for everything from office meetings to weekend outings. The trend is versatile, offering options for any occasion.

“We’ve seen a significant rise in matching sets, especially this year,”

says Divya Mathur, CMO at Revolve. Their data shows matching sets ranking among the most visited and highest-grossing categories on their site. “By utilizing our AI-powered shopping capabilities, we’ve curated assortments tailored for everything from vacations to night outs,” she continues.

Thanks to this growing popularity, brands have extended their matching offerings far beyond just workout gear to include pieces suitable for both day and evening wear. Think materials like poplin, linen, and tweed. Mathur mentions that matching sets offer a complete look without the hassle of mixing and matching. This summer, people are embracing pastel short sets and tweed combinations, emphasizing comfort without sacrificing style.

Additionally, prominent names such as Alexander Wang and Self Portrait have various matching sets available. At Bloomingdale’s, brands like Farm Rio and Aqua lead the pack. Fashion director Janelle Lloyd describes them as a shortcut to looking effortlessly chic. “A relaxed button-down with pants or a polished skirt and top—just add a statement earring and a woven bag, and you’re set!”

Their offerings range from tailored outfits to more casual ensembles, thus catering to every style or mood.

In sunny Los Angeles, Sarah Staudinger, co-founder of Staud, has also noted increased interest in matching sets. “They’re perfect for summer travels, helping you enjoy multiple looks without overpacking,” she shares. Her timeless chino sets are travel-friendly staples that can be mixed and matched seamlessly.
