IED Attack on PTI MPA in Bajaur: A Closer Look
Early Thursday morning, an improvised explosive device (IED) detonated at the residence of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) MPA Dr. Hamid ur Rehman in Bajaur’s Khar area. The blast, which occurred around 4:50 AM, caused significant property damage but, fortunately, no loss of life.
The device was planted at the entrance gate of Dr. Rehman’s home, situated near the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital. Thankfully, Dr. Rehman, who also chairs the District Development Advisory Committee (DDAC) for PK-19, was not present during the attack. Local police reported that the explosion completely destroyed the home’s entrance, prompting officers to collect forensic evidence at the scene, as a formal investigation has now been initiated.
In a media statement, Dr. Rehman expressed his relief that no one was injured, saying, "Thank God everyone is safe. The One who protects is greater than those who wish to harm. May Allah keep us safe from such incidents." He reaffirmed his commitment to serving the community, vowing, "God willing, I will keep working for peace and development in my area."
The incident follows a recent surge in terrorist attacks in Bajaur, which has claimed numerous civilian lives over the past two months. In response, local officials convened a jirga, gathering senior government and police officials, military representatives, political figures, tribal elders, and religious scholars to discuss the worsening security situation. They outlined plans for intelligence-based operations aimed at eliminating militant threats while minimizing civilian impact.
