Tragic Road Incidents Highlight Safety Concerns on Pakistan’s Highways

Recently, tragic events on Pakistani roads have brought to light the urgent need for enhanced safety measures. A heartbreaking incident occurred on Thursday when a truck overturned near Tunnel Number Three on the Swat Motorway, claiming the lives of at least 15 people from the same family. They were traveling from the Gabral area of Behrain Tehsil in Swat District. The swift response from Malakand Rescue 1122, along with Motorway Police, ensured that those injured were quickly attended to and transported to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital in Batkhela.

In another alarming event, 11 people were injured in a collision between two Hiace coaches near Gandi Parana Adda, Lakki Marwat. All victims were promptly taken to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital in Sarai Naurang, receiving essential medical care. Incidents like these raise critical questions about road safety and the measures needed to protect travelers.

The frequency of such accidents is nothing short of alarming. In September, for instance, a head-on collision on the Indus Highway in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa’s Karak district resulted in the loss of 10 lives. Earlier this year, another brutal accident claimed the lives of 12 individuals when a lorry lost control and struck multiple vehicles.
