Dismantling a Network: The Fight Against Terrorism in Sindh
In recent news, the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) of Sindh, along with federal intelligence agencies, made significant strides in combating terrorism by dismantling a suspected network of the Indian intelligence agency, RAW. This development comes in light of the tragic murder of social activist Abdul Rehman in Badin, whose welfare work had touched many lives in the community.
During a press briefing, Additional IG CTD Azaad Khan shared that six suspects have been arrested, with several planning terror plots in Karachi. One of the more shocking details is that the slain activist was allegedly targeted due to his vocal stance on various issues affecting the local populace. The incident occurred back in May, leaving the community searching for answers and justice after assailants fled the scene.
CCTV footage played a pivotal role in identifying the three suspects involved in the shooting. Law enforcement agencies quickly acted upon this evidence, leading to the arrest of two individuals and the recovery of the murder weapon alongside their getaway motorcycle.
The plot thickened as officials revealed that this operation was allegedly being orchestrated from a safe house in Karachi. An individual named Sanjay Sanjeev Kumar, also known as Fauji and believed to be based in a Gulf state, was said to have masterminded the operation. He reportedly recruited local suspects from Sheikhupura, forming a gang that was clearly dedicated to carrying out these nefarious acts.
Beyond the arrests, CTD officials traced significant funding for the attack back to RAW, indicating a well-coordinated effort that had financial backing to support their criminal activities. A case under terror financing laws has already been registered, and investigations are ongoing to apprehend other accomplices possibly linked to this network.
The arrest of suspects such as Umair Asghar, Sajjad, Obaid, Shakeel, Arsalan, and Talha Umair, along with the confiscation of weapons and mobile phones, underscores the commitment of law enforcement to maintaining peace in the region.
