Majestic Humpback Whales of the Arabian Sea: A Sign of Recovery

Recently, a large pod of endangered Arabian humpback whales was spotted just offshore, a moment captured by a local fishing boat captain. In fact, Pakistan’s marine habitats have recorded a total of 27 species of whales and dolphins!

Unlike many humpback populations that journey to Antarctic waters in summer to indulge in krill, these whales remain confined to the warm waters of the Arabian Sea year-round. Sadly, their numbers have been severely affected by past whaling practices, particularly from Soviet fleets between 1963 and 1967.
