Strengthening Ties: PM Shehbaz Sharif’s Diplomatic Efforts at the Arab-Islamic Summit
Recently, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif met with His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of Qatar, during the Emergency Arab–Islamic Summit in Doha. This summit was timely, convened in response to Israel’s recent attack on Qatari soil that raised serious concerns for regional stability and peace.
Accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, as well as Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, PM Shehbaz strongly condemned the violent actions that occurred on September 9. He characterized the attack as a grave violation of international law and Qatar’s sovereignty. Pakistan has always stood in solidarity with Qatar, emphasizing the historical bond between the two nations.
During his remarks, PM Shehbaz highlighted the urgent need for unity in the Ummah and called for an end to Israeli aggression in the Middle East. He especially praised Qatar for its initiative in organizing the summit, which aims to forge a collective stance among Arab and Islamic leaders against further hostilities.
The draft resolution to be presented at the summit is significant. It underscores that Israel’s actions jeopardize not only the Palestinian cause but also regional efforts towards normalization and coexistence. The statement from the summit calls on member states to take legal actions, including reviewing relations with Israel and initiating legal proceedings.
The Israeli attack reportedly resulted in numerous casualties, including civilians, which has prompted calls for immediate global accountability. PM Shehbaz stressed that the solution to the ongoing crisis lies in the establishment of a viable Palestinian state with Al Quds Al Sharif as its capital.
Beyond the summit, PM Shehbaz also engaged in separate discussions with leaders from Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Jordan, reinforcing Pakistan’s commitment to cooperative diplomacy and dialogue in the region.
