In a tragic turn of events this week, six brave police officers lost their lives to a heinous attack in Tank, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. The attack occurred when their police armoured personnel carrier was targeted by an improvised explosive device while traveling from Gomal to Tank. It’s a grim reminder of the dangers law enforcement faces daily. Just hours later, another police vehicle was struck by an IED near Darah Tang, injuring three more officers. The bloodshed doesn’t stop there; in a separate incident, unidentified gunmen shot down a police officer and his cousin in Kachi Kathgarh.
This increase in violence is alarming, especially in light of the recent uptick in terrorist activities in Pakistan since the Taliban took power in Afghanistan in August 2021. In the last couple of days alone, the Counter-Terrorism Department conducted operations that led to the elimination of six terrorists. Despite these efforts, the threats persist, with officials confirming that over 4,000 Pakistanis have lost their lives to such violence since the Taliban takeover.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed his sorrow and pledged that the sacrifices of our police officers would not be in vain. He emphasized the importance of a swift investigation, assuring the families of the fallen that justice would prevail.
