Heavy Rain Hits Rawalpindi and Islamabad: What You Need to Know

Last night, Rawalpindi and Islamabad were drenched with heavy rainfall, prompting the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) to spring into action with a high alert and declare a rain emergency. If you’re in these cities, you might want to stay informed about the situation.

WASA’s Managing Director, Muhammad Saleem Ashraf, shared that teams equipped with heavy machinery have been deployed to low-lying areas. They acted quickly, sending equipment to key spots like the Committee Chowk Underpass and Murree Road as soon as the rain began. This proactive approach aims to manage water accumulation effectively and keep things running smoothly.

According to data from the Meteorological Department, Saidpur experienced the highest rainfall, clocking in at a staggering 80 mm. Meanwhile, the PMD recorded 40 mm, with Shamsabad and Pirwadhai having 20 mm and 15 mm, respectively. A notable surge was observed in the Nullah Lai catchment area, particularly in Saidpur, where 80 mm of rain was recorded in just one hour. Thankfully, the water levels in Nullah Lai are being diligently monitored, and for now, the flow remains stable.

For residents in the area, it’s crucial to exercise caution. Authorities are reminding everyone to avoid low-lying areas unless absolutely necessary. If you do find yourself in a tricky situation, don’t hesitate to reach out to WASA’s helpline for assistance.
